After six and a half months separated from Michel, the children and our house, except for a brief visit, I am returning to Haiti this week. Although some days the temperature feels like 41°C and the most comfortable place would be to sleep on the roof of the house like some of the workers did in Mali, I am so happy to be back.
I did my 5 radiation treatments in a week and I feel very good. If the ultrasound hadn’t revealed that there was a problem, I wouldn’t have known. Despite the long wait times, thank God for medical care in Canada.
26 years ago, on August 12, 1996, we arrived in Haiti with our two boys and our dog Rottweiler, with no fixed place to live. A lot of work still awaits us in the coming times including meetings with some 800 children, a children’s camp, the nutrition program and the start of the school year. A hundred children are waiting for a sponsor.
27 sponsored students through Child Care Plus graduated from grade 13 this year.
This man was blind and his house was destroyed by the latest earthquake. We are grateful to ERDO (Emergency Relief and Development Overseas) for helping the most vulnerable. ERDO collected donations for food and 20 prefabricated houses. Ten made it to their destination despite gangs and kidnappings. Ten more will be delivered. The following photos show the beneficiaries’ homes after the earthquake and their new home.
Your prayers and donations make a difference. We appreciate that.
