Children, rays of sunshine in these troubled times

Categories: Uncategorized @en

The children of kindergarten are the sunshine of La Forteresse school.  When we pass by them, they run after us and wrap their arms around us or they just want to touch us or take our hand.  We warm up under their rays.

Despite the situation, children come to church almost as many as before. We have about 700 children and monitors at Sunday school, even though we can’t offer them meals. Meals are given at the school.

The situation in Haiti

Fighting continues in Haiti for control of territory. We are in the midst of an urban war. There are two types of fights: police versus gangs and gangs versus gangs.    It is said that gangsters control 60% of Port-au-Prince, other sources claim that they control the entire capital.  To frighten and traumatize the population, some gangs travel by vehicle at night and fire bursts of gunfire in some neighborhoods.

Two weeks ago in an area of Haiti, a fight between gangs resulted in 60 deaths, 50 missing and a hundred houses burned (provisional assessment). As a result, people fled, but to go where?  Some slept directly on the street, in a safer area.

Our life is in Haiti and we do not see how to leave if Jesus does not tell us. How much we would like to live in a country at peace and where we feel welcome. We need to take more precautions to get out of the house. 1. Do not walk on the street.  2. Avoid sitting in the front seat of our car. 3. Never go out at night after 5 pm.  But several kidnappings occur in broad daylight and even early in the morning.

Donation for our nutrition program:

Some people have asked us for a link on the ERDO page to donate to the nutrition program in Haiti.  We have not yet received a link to make a donation, but you can make one to your church and request that it be sent to ERDO with the mention: Programme de Nutrition/Haiti/Michel Charbonneau.

Cooks begin around 6:30 a.m. preparing a meal served during recess.

–Please pray for peace in Haiti and may God deliver people from fear. The enemy wants to instill fear in hearts, but God is stronger than the devil and He can send angels to protect us.

P.S. Finally, we dared to put several colors on the walls of the school.
