Port-au-Prince Without Electricity for a Month

Categories: Uncategorized @en

The city of Port-au-Prince was without electricity for 4 weeks due to the strike of employees in this sector. At night, it was total darkness seen from our window. The wealthiest survive thanks to solar panels and generators. The temperature during the day varies between 32 and 37 C. People who can’t sleep in their yards or outside because of insecurity manage to fall asleep after midnight.

Haiti has entered a new and quite dangerous phase called Bwa Kale (Peeled Wood). Bandits are being burned alive. Gangs are kidnapping, killing, robbing and burning. The exasperated population, armed with machetes, decided to put an end to this nightmare by killing the bandits. Unfortunately, some innocent people were killed by mistake. It is estimated that more than 150 bandits were killed.

Some time ago, the police seized the base of a gang installed on the side of a mountain.  Several members of the gang were shot, and it seems that they freed many hostages during the intervention.  This week, police are working to retake Village of God territory.   Keep praying.

On another note, I received the result from the radiology and mammography centre where I did my last examination in Quebec in the spring. I was told that everything is normal… No trace of cancer.  What good news!  Glory to God!

A lady from Florida made 45 dresses.  What a blessing to have received and been able to distribute the dresses and bags to the girls.  I can only imagine all the hours of work she spent sewing lovingly to bless these little girls.

The close-up photo shows two little sisters wearing pink dresses in the lower left. A gang chased them from their home with their siblings and mother and burned their house. Their mother suffers from mental illness. They live and sleep on the balcony of an aunt’s house. However, they are sponsored by Child Care Plus and have been attending our school for almost a year. We give them food every week to bring back home and they are fed at school twice a week.   When I made their profile, I asked to the smallest what she wanted to do when she grows up. She replied without hesitation that she wanted to preach the Gospel.
