They Slept at the Gas Pump

Categories: Uncategorized @en

Some gangs have decided to prevent the fuel trucks to deliver until the new Haiti Prime Minister steps down. But they gave a six day truce. Please pray that the gangs let the fuel trucks go through the areas they control. I read that they kidnapped ten fuel truck drivers and they kept the fuel for themselves. I do not know if it is a fake new or not. This week at the pump was crazy. We saw hundreds of people waiting for gas. Thank God, we were able to buy 120 gallons of diesel for the school and 30 for our generator. We will use them sparingly.

A couple of weeks ago, Asou (who has been staying with us for eleven years) and his friends decided to sleep at the pump as many have been doing lately to get gas. The police came to fill up their recipients and they did not care about getting in line due to the nature of their work. The pump’s owner started delivering around noon. Asou and his friends got 4 gallons. Then the manager stopped delivering because the people became too aggressive after seeing that the police did not get in line. Shooting started at the pump, and everyone ran away including the police officers. Two weeks ago, Jean-Benoît, an evangelist, walked for 2 hours to get some diesel for our church. He and his friend walked through Martissant, a gang controlled area.  Thank God, despite the dead bodies they saw on the street, the gang members did not harm them.

Without fuel, many businesses cannot operate, and some will go bankrupt. Some people come to us and say that there is nothing to eat at home. We have to help them. Prices have gone up a lot. Without fuel, we cannot go around in town. Lately, we bought some gas that we paid five times the regular price. My car’s gage does not work anymore, so we pray for multiplication. To ride a bike would be a better option at this time. 😊 We purchased solar panels for our house.

Our bank has six armed security guards with automatic weapons. We went to open a bank account in a safer area. We waited in line outside for 2 ½ hours. Once inside, the wait and the account opening took 2 ¼ hours.

At the moment we write, two of the 17 Americans including one Canadian hostages have been released. We believe that it will not be long for the others to be freed. One ex-patriate who has been in Haiti for many years was kidnapped in August. She said that she was held hostage for eight days and her captors did not give her any water to shower. Can you imagine being held hostages with a baby and young children without water?

God is faithful and He does not abandon his children. Please pray that God helps us to say words of faith instead of words of discouragement and fear. The enemy wants to sow terror.
